Kapalua Bay Villas Resort

An inherent richness of beauty and culture embellishes what we know today as the Kapalua Resort.  Hawaiian Ancestors knew this area as Honokahua.  Spread across 22,000 acres, Kapalua stretches from the peak of Puʻu Kukui to the rocky shoreline and white sandy beaches.  Kapalua Resort was once set among nature preserves and pineapple fields.  Today Kapalua is home to many luxury condominiums, homes, hotels golf courses restaurants and beaches.  Sullivan Properties has the pleasure of managing several one and two bedroom vacation rentals at the Kapalua Villas which includes the Bay Villas, Ridge Villas, and Golf Villas @ Kapalua Resorts.

The Bay Villas were the first luxury condominiums in the Kapalua Resorts.  Made up of 141 condos located between Kapalua Bay and Oneloa Bay, this property welcomes you to the most pristine location on West Maui.  This location has breathtaking ocean front views of the islands of Molokai and Lanai.  Units range in size from 1,100 to 2,000 square feet including lanais. The villas have high ceilings, sunken garden baths, fully equipped kitchens, washer/dryer in each unit and majestic sunset views. Vacation rentals in this property managed by Sullivan Properties are ground floor, split level and/or air conditioned. Located on the property are three heated swimming pools, two tennis courts, gas barbecues and recreation areas for the convenience of owners and guests. The Bay Villas are located next to the Montage hotel which features award winning restaurants, the Cliff House, Cane & Canoe Restaurant, and Spa Montage Kapalua.

Kapalua is home to Merrimans, Sansei, the Planation House Restaurant, Honolua Store, and Taverna. Whether you are looking for somewhere to celebrate a special occasion or just a local “plate lunch,” Kapalua Resort serves your dining needs. Neighboring Napili town also has a selection of restaurants. Enjoy dining oceanfront at Gazebo or the Seahouse! Cultural flavors of a wide variety are available at the Napili Plaza along with a grocery store, Napili Market.

Dr. Beach named Kapalua Bay the “best beach of 2018.”  This gem of a beach hosts wedding ceremonies and is home to some of the best snorkeling on Maui.  Dr. Beach calls Kapalua Bay, “a perfect beach for swimming and snorkeling in the clear, azure waters that are protected by two headlands formed long ago by lava flows into the sea.” Oneloa Bay, more commonly known to locals as “Ironwoods,” is a wonderfully long, white breezy beach just north of Kapalua Bay. This is a favorite to surfers and those who enjoy sunbathing without the crowd. Slaughter House beach, despite the unusual name is a secluded cove with extreme ocean clarity. The name stems from Maui’s historical past when the area was used for cattle farming. Furthest north in Kapalua is Honolua Bay which hosts the World Surf League, Maui Women’s Pro annually. This contest brings some of the world’s best female athletes to Kapalua.

Kapalua Wine & Food festival is one of the oldest festivals of its kind – especially on Maui. The event aims to provide local, national and international vendors an opportunity to showcase their products, recipes and wine. Once just a simple event, the Kapalua Wine & Food Festival now incorporates cooking demonstrations, lectures, wine/food pairings, winemakers’ dinners, a golf tournament, tennis clinics and two major evening galas (The Grand Tasting and the Seafood Festival). Hawaii’s most prominent chefs participate in the 4 day event that brings in a total average of approximately 3,500 people to the event.

The hiking trails at Kapalua are not to be missed! Used by many visitors and locals, one can experience the ocean breezes with the Kapalua Coastal trail or the mountainous terrain of the Village trails.  The Coastal trail extends from DT Flemmings, along the front of the Kapalua Bay Villlas and the Montage and ends near Merriman’s at Kapalua Bay beach. This trail is easy for any level of hiking ability. Stroll along with a cup of coffee or enjoy a brisk cardio walk! Those looking for a little more of a work out should visit the Kapalua Village trails. These cover the old Kapalua Village golf course – once a favorite to many golfers. The old cart paths create either an easy loop or a very difficult hike by venturing up to the pond at the very top. Either way, you will enjoy panoramic views of the gorgeous Pacific Ocean, Molokai and the coastline from Kapalua to Honolua.  The third trail we recommend is definitely for the avid hiker who is looking for rugged terrain and a true work out! The Mahana Ridge trail begins at DT Flemming beach and is about 20 miles round trip. It is up hill to the Maunalei Arboretum then back down. Should you attempt this trail, be sure to bring adequate water, nutrition and pay close attention to the weather conditions.

The Mercedes Tournament of Champions, which is now known as Sentry Tournament of Champions is held annually at the world famous Kapalua Plantation Golf course. It is the opening even of the PGA Tour season which gives honors to all those who won the previous year. The tournament was founded in 1953 and began by restricting players to only those who won a tournament the year prior. This tradition continues today. The par 73 course at the Plantation is especially difficult with the daily 15-20mph trade winds that keep Maui cool.

One of the many amenities offered at the Kapalua Resort is the free shared shuttle service around the resort.
