Napili Bay Resort

Napili Bay is without exception one of Maui’s favorite beaches. The crescent-shape beach is located just north of Kaanapali and about 1 mile from world renowned, Kapalua. Napili Bay is known for its golden sand, amazing colorful sunsets, snorkeling and gentle surf. Dolphins sometimes drop in and you can watch them play! During the winter months, the whale watching is mesmerizing.

Napili Bay is perfect for both beginners and seasoned snorkelers. The water is from 3ft to 8ft deep on a normal day, and the waves are generally calm. During low tide, the rock formations and corals on the sides of the beach get exposed, and the colorful underwater creatures are sometimes visible even from the shoreline. The beach is home to a large number of fish, coral formations, and rock abutments. Without leaving the beach just stroll to the end of the bay and enjoy beachfront dining at the Seahouse Restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also have a great afternoon Happy Hour which is a local favorite! By far, one of the most popular restaurants on Maui, the Gazebo Restaurant sits on the other side of the bay and serves breakfast and lunch. Enjoy casual but tasty food at Kitchen 5315 in the Napili Shores resort for dinner Tuesdays through Saturdays.

This property sits on the 2nd floor of a two story building that is situated directly on the sand of Napili Bay. All units are well maintained studios with fully stocked kitchens and balconies that look directly at the great Pacific. Watch whales, dolphins and turtles right from this condo! There are washers/dryers available on property.  With just a handful of condo complexes on Napili Bay, you will enjoy a low population density at this location.

Nearby, is Kapalua Resort, home to Merrimans, Sansei, the Planation House Restaurant, Honolua Store, and Taverna. Whether you are looking for somewhere to celebrate a special occasion or just a local “plate lunch,” Kapalua Resort serves your dining needs. In the opposite direction, cultural flavors of a wide variety are available at the Napili Plaza along with a grocery store, Napili Market.

Adjacent to the beauty of Napili Bay, you will find Kapalua Bay beach. Dr. Beach named Kapalua Bay the “best beach of 2018.”  This gem of a beach hosts wedding ceremonies and is home to some of the best snorkeling on Maui.  Dr. Beach calls Kapalua Bay, “a perfect beach for swimming and snorkeling in the clear, azure waters that are protected by two headlands formed long ago by lava flows into the sea.” Oneloa Bay, more commonly known to locals as “Ironwoods,” is a wonderfully long, white breezy beach just north of Kapalua Bay. This is a favorite to surfers and those who enjoy sunbathing without the crowd. Slaughter House beach, despite the unusual name is a secluded cove with extreme ocean clarity. The name stems from Maui’s historical past when the area was used for cattle farming. Furthest north in Kapalua is Honolua Bay which hosts the World Surf League, Maui Women’s Pro annually. This contest brings some of the world’s best female athletes to Kapalua.

X terra is a global brand that supports and encourages outdoor enthusiast. The constant pursuit of relentless adventure by the many athletes that visit is a true joy to cheer on! Kapalua Resort teams with The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua annually to host this amazing event. The 10k, 5k and 3.3k runs are open to the community and visitors. The event also hosts a triathlon for the most elite of athletes!

The hiking trails at Kapalua are not to be missed! Used by many visitors and locals, one can experience the ocean breezes with the Kapalua Coastal trail or the mountainous terrain of the Village trails.  The Coastal trail extends from DT Flemmings, along the front of the Kapalua Bay Villlas and the Montage and ends near Merriman’s at Kapalua Bay beach. This trail is easy for any level of hiking ability. Stroll along with a cup of coffee or enjoy a brisk cardio walk! Those looking for a little more of a work out should visit the Kapalua Village trails. These cover the old Kapalua Village golf course – once a favorite to many golfers. The old cart paths create either an easy loop or a very difficult hike by venturing up to the pond at the very top. Either way, you will enjoy panoramic views of the gorgeous Pacific Ocean, Molokai and the coastline from Kapalua to Honolua.  The third trail we recommend is definitely for the avid hiker who is looking for rugged terrain and a true work out! The Mahana Ridge trail begins at DT Flemming beach and is about 20 miles round trip. It is up hill to the Maunalei Arboretum then back down. Should you attempt this trail, be sure to bring adequate water, nutrition and pay close attention to the weather conditions.
