Spring Break 2027 in West Maui With Kids: Planning One Kahana Stay for Two or Three Families

A family with two young children run and play on a beach.
by Sullivan Properties

Two or three families sharing a spring break 2027 trip do best with one condo per family at the same Kahana resort. Maui with kids gets easier that way. Everyone shares the beach and the pool, each family keeps its own kitchen, and nobody queues for a bathroom behind another family's toddler. The catch is timing. March and April sit inside Maui's December-to-April peak season, so the condos need holding now, before anyone buys a plane ticket.

Quick Summary: Key Takeaways

Separate condos, one resort: each family keeps its own kitchen, laundry and bedtime, and the kids meet at the pool.
Kahana is where groups fit: a single group can hold as many as 24 Kahana Sunset condos, or 19 at Sands of Kahana.
The group rate: reserve three or more condos and each one is 10% off, though it can't be stacked with other specials.
Pack mineral sunscreen: Maui County has allowed only mineral sunscreens since October 1, 2022.
Whales are still around: NOAA's sanctuary says they can be seen from November through April.

Maui With Kids Works Best as Separate Condos at One Kahana Resort

For two or three families, book one condo per family at the same Kahana resort. A shared house sounds cheaper until the third morning. That's when one family wants pancakes at dawn and another has teenagers asleep until ten.

Why Kahana? It's where our group capacity sits. Kapalua is lovely, but we can hold only one Bay Villa and two Ridge Villas for a group there, split across two resorts, while Kahana Sunset and Sands of Kahana can put every family on the same grounds. Book three condos or more together and our group rate takes 10% off every one.

Kahana Sunset Suits Families Who Want a Calm Bay

Kahana Sunset is the quieter pick, set on Keonenui Bay, which on a flat day is calm enough for a child's first snorkel. It's a small property, too: six buildings and 79 units on just over four acres.

Our two-bedroom condos there are two-story and sleep six, and the one-bedrooms sleep four. Each comes with a full kitchen, a washer and dryer, a private lanai and free covered parking, while the grounds hold a pool and BBQ grills for the group's big dinner night. Kids go through swimsuits fast. The in-unit washer handles that.

Sands of Kahana Suits Bigger Families and Pool Days

Sands of Kahana is the one for a family of seven or eight. Our three-bedroom condos there sleep eight. One is a penthouse with the third bedroom up in a loft.

The resort has two pools, one with a separate children's water play area, plus mini golf, a beach volleyball court and lighted tennis courts for an afternoon off the sand. The Beach House Bar & Grill on the property serves breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, which covers the night when nobody in a group of 20 wants to cook. Strollers are easy. Every building has an elevator.

Three Families Can Fit Twenty People Under the Group Rate

A mix that works: two two-bedrooms and one three-bedroom at Sands of Kahana, sleeping 20 between them. At Kahana Sunset, three two-bedrooms sleep 18. That suits three families of four to six.

Run the numbers early. The 10% group rate applies to each condo once three are reserved together, but it doesn't combine with other specials, so weigh it against any offer before you choose. Neither resort charges a parking or resort fee. Pick one adult as the group's contact with us.

Spring Break Beach Days Come With Two Maui Rules

Two local rules matter more for a spring break group than any packing list. First, sunscreen. Maui County's Ordinance No. 5306 has allowed only mineral sunscreens since October 1, 2022, so bring zinc oxide or titanium dioxide formulas for every kid.

Second, whales. The Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary says humpbacks can be seen from shore and at sea from November through April, and it asks everyone to keep 100 yards away. April is late in the run. Even so, an ocean-view lanai in March can still turn up a spout before breakfast.

Bringing a baby? Rent the bulky gear on island. Several Maui companies deliver car seats, cribs and strollers.

Book the Condos Before Anyone Books Flights

Reserve the condos first. Flights come after. Holding three units at one resort for the same school week is the hard part of this trip, so it's the piece to settle before anything else gets booked.

Our own planning guide suggests booking peak-season stays six to 12 months ahead. So spring break 2027 is already on the late side. Snorkel tours and luaus can follow at three to six months out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is Maui good for kids during spring break?

A: Yes, especially West Maui, where a calm day on Keonenui Bay at Kahana Sunset suits young swimmers. It's peak season, so book condos early.

Q: Can several families stay at the same Maui resort?

A: Yes. One group can book up to 24 condos at Kahana Sunset, or up to 19 at Sands of Kahana, so every family gets its own unit.

Q: Does the Maui group discount combine with other deals?

A: No. Reserving three or more condos takes 10% off each one, but that rate can't be combined with other specials.

Q: Can you see whales in Maui in April?

A: Yes. NOAA's sanctuary lists November through April for whale viewing, from shore and from boats, so an April trip still falls inside the season.
